York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills Book 13--Indentures 26 September 1706 Abraham Royston Mulato son of Eizth: Chilmaid is ordered to be brought to ye. next court and yt. ye. clerk provide An Indenture to bind him to Thom Holliday boat wright after ye. manner of an apprentice to Learn ye. said Craft or mistery & at ye. end or Expiracon of his time to have Corn & cloaths according to ye. Law of this Country. Justices of ye. county aforesd. hath & by these prsents according to an order of ye. sd. Justices bearing date Sepr: ye. 26th. Last past doth put himself an apprentice unto Thom[as] Holliday of ye. county aforesd. Boat wright to learn ye. said mistery or occupacon of Boat wright wth. him ye. said Thomas after ye. maner of an apprentice to dwell & Serve for & during the space & terme of seven yeares now next comeing During all wch. Time the sd. Abraham his said master well & faithfull shall Serve, his Secrets keep, his comands Lawfully every where in ye. said Collony gladly doe Hurt to his said master he shall not do, nor suffer to be done of others; And in all things as a good & faithfull apprentice he shall beare & behave himself. Apprentice to Thomas Pretlow Weaver of the County of Warwick to Learne his Art and live after the Manner of an Apprentice to serve from the first day of January last past unto the full End & Term of Seven Year's from thence next following fully to be Compleat & Ended dureing which said Term the said Apprentice his said Master faithfully shall Serve his Secrets keep his Lawfull Commands every Where doe he shall do no Damage to his said Master nor See to be done of others but he to his power shall lett or forthwith Admonish his said Master thereof he shall not Wast the Goods of said Master nor Lend them unlawfully to any, He shall not Comitt fornication nor Contract Matrimony within the said Term, Hee shall not play at Cards Dice Tables or any other unlawfull Games whereby his said Master may have any Loss with his own Goods or others dureing the said Term Hee shall not Haunt Taverns nor absent himself from his Masters Service Day nor Night unlawfully but in all things as a faithfull Apprentice he shall behave himselfe towards his said Master & all his dureing the said Term And the said Master his said Apprentice in the same Art which he now useth by the best Meanes shall Teach & Instruct with due Correction finding to his said Apprentice Meat Drink Apparell Lodging & all other Necessarys dureing the said Terme & in the End of the said shall give unto his said Twenty fourth day of June in the Year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred & Nine By & between Nathaniel Hook of York County in the Colony & Dominion of Virginia Carpenter of the one part & Henry Johnson of Elizabeth City County of the said Dominion of the other part Witnesseth that the said Henry Johnson for severall Good Causes & Considerations him hereunto Moveing doth by these presents of his own free & Voluntary Will, together with the Consent of his Brother Mark Johnson of Elizabeth City County aforesaid put himself Apprentice unto the said Nathaniel Hook for & Dureing the Terme time & space (that is to say) from the Ensealing & Delivery of these presents untill he the said Henry shall arrive to the full age of one & Twenty Years fully to be Compleated & Ended Dureing which terme the said Henry Johnson his said Master shall faithfully serve his Secretts he shall keep his Commands Lawfull & honest he shall Gladly Doe without any Covin or Issuit, he shall not play at Cards Dice or any other unlawfull Games privately or openly with any person or persons to the Damage of his said Master he shall not Contract Matrimony or keep Company with any Lewd Woman or frequent ordinary's Hurt or Dammage to his said Master he shall not Doe nor Consent to be Done of others but that he to his power shall give Notice to his said Master but in all things as a faithfull Apprentice from time to time & at all times hereafter dureing the said Term shall keep & behave himself Blameless as well in Words as in Deeds In Consideration of which the said Nathaniel Hook or his Assignes dureing the said Term is to Teach & Instruct his said Apprentice in the Art or Trade of a Carpenter which he Now useth to the best of his skill & Indeavour and also to find him with Meat Drink Apprarell Lodging & Washing and all other Necessarys as becometh an Apprentice to have dureing the said Term & at the End & Expiration thereof the said Nathaniel Hook or his Assignes is to give unto his said Apprentice These several Tools (Vizt:) One Broad Ax, One Hand Saw, three Augurs, one Gouge Three Chissells & three Planes all New Tools together with a Good New Suit of Serge Apparall with all Necessarys
